Hello, I am Robin Khoury. Dr. Frank A. Godsoe was my great Grandaddy. My memories of him are of warm hugs at family dinners and him singing his favorite lullaby, “Bum-de-Bum” to whatever baby was fussing at the moment. (the words to “Bum-de-Bum” were, well, “Bum de Bum.”  Just sing, “Bum de bum de bum de bum de bum de bum de bum” to the tune of “Are You Washed in the Blood of the Lamb?” and you’ve got it!) I also remember him retiring to Granny’s little back bedroom to watch the bowl game. (Most of the time when I saw Grandaddy it was on a holiday.)

Grandaddy had one remarkable characterstic. He could tell jokes and stories endlessly, and somehow he never repeated himself. He was a student of humor and people and God.

I only heard him preach a couple of times. I don’t remember the content of the sermon, but I remember his style. He wasn’t a mellow teacher like we have today, he was an old timey gospel preacher. He talked smooth and loud, and he waved his Bible. He thumped it down on the podium a time or two. (Perhaps this is why the term “Bible thumper” has never been a bad thing to me! (I suppose it’s just negative to those to whom it would be irrelevant.)  His voice was full and deep, a perfect voice for a preacher.

God blessed me to be born to the daughter of his daughter, and to grow up near him in his old age. I remember the day we had to take him to a nursing home. Now that I am getting older myself, I realize what an incredible gift is is to be related to Dr. Godsoe. God has entrusted me with his writings, and I would like to be a good steward of his life’s work.
